What Is PROM?

PROM was initially founded in 1983 by the Michigan State Medical Society, and is a URAC accredited independent review organization. In 2001 PROM became independent, but still enjoys the endorsement of the medical society.  Utilizing the expertise of its experienced staff and carefully selected board-certified reviewers, PROM ensures that clients receive informed, confidential, and objective reviews.

  

 

EXTERNAL PEER REVIEW

Providing effective external peer review is an essential element in the overall success of any healthcare facility. Recognizing that hospitals and medical staff have the responsibility to maintain high-quality standards, PROM has developed a peer review policy and approach to meet these standards. PROM's Board of Directors and Advisory Committee has reviewed the Joint Commission's standards and developed an approach to assist hospitals and medical staff meet the requirements by which a review of a practitioner's performance is required. According to the Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals: The Official Handbook, Standard MS 4.90, requires that "there is a process that defines circumstances requiring a focused review of a practitioner's performance and evaluation of a practitioner's performance by peers."

   

MANAGEMENT

In addition to being a non-profit corporation governed by Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) and American Physicians, PROM is managed by Medical Advantage Group (MAG), a consulting company that, in addition to managing PROM, manages Professional Credential Verification Service (PCVS), and provides administrative services and consulting to physician organizations, health plans and health purchasers.
